Introduction To Ponies: Lessons for children ages 4-6
We spend time teaching children how to be comfortable working around the ponies and horses. Each child is taught how to groom and learn about the equipment used to ride ponies. Then we teach the children how to lead their mount safely. Riding ponies for the first time on a lunge line allows each child to experience what they were taught and helps them stay focused on the fun of riding while under the supervision of a riding instructor. The riding instructor teaches about safety and control before, during and after riding. Children learn to walk, sitting trot, jump position and posting trot. Mounted time is 20-30 minutes according to the individual attention span of each child. Lesson prices start at $30. All beginner lessons are private.
Ponies 101: For children ages 6 and up
These lessons are geared to children that are familiar with working the horse. The child transitions to Ponies 101 when they are able to demonstrate the basic control and are ready to come off of the lunge line. Emphasis is placed on the correct design of position and proper equitation is now the focus. Children at this level will start at the walk and trot and learn how to canter Ponies 101 lessons are $40 for 30 minute private lessons.

Once a child is capable of jumping two feet and or becomes interested in joining us at horse shows they are ready to either lease or purchase a horse of pony of their own. It is crucial at this point for your child to advance so thst they spend more time in the saddle and leasing or purchasing a consistent mount will really help your child improve. Also at this stage, group lessons are offered. Classes for children on leased or owned mounts Group and Private $45 for 1 hour group, 45 minutes for semi private or 30 minutes private.
We take a small manageable group of children to shows on a regular basis. This is a great way to test out skill levels and see areas in which we need to improve and focus on. We go to many of the local VBHSA shows and beginning in summer of 2012 we will start picking a few select out of town rated shows to go to if interest warrants. Prices and info can be obtained from Lisa.
In addition to horse shows we also like to take small groups of riders and their horses off the farm to trail ride. This gives rider and horse a nice break from the ring.
